Newsflash.... I don't think cheetachat works anymore, please don't e-mail me with your problems because I can't help!

OK... so you have downloaded cheetachat and you see all these pictures next to people's chat names, you see weird emotions that show the date and time, and you see nifty little hearts or ticks... and you wonder HOW THE HELL DO THEY DO THAT!

Avatars (Back to top)

Yes these are the proper name for those fancy little pictures next to people's names when they chat. Not visible in messenger or Yahoo! chat, they add a certain personalization to chat. Especially if you design your own and submit it to Cheetachat.

So how do you get avatars? Well first go to preferences, which is that funny little picture which looks like a pen and papers 4th from the right in the list of pictures at the top of your screen. Then click on Yahoo/Cheetachat. Make sure that graphical avatars is check and then click on custom to find an avatar that you like.

That's about as far as 90% of Cheetachatters go as far as avatars are concerned. However with a quick search around the avatar repository at Cheetachat (http://avatars.cheetachat.com) you can not only search for your perfect avatar using the search tool and then saving the picture to your avatars folder, but you can even create your own avatar and submit it to cheetachat so that everyone can see it without you having to send it all the time. To submit an avatar you have to register with Cheetachat, which doesn't take too long, and then upload any JPEG file and they will consider it for a few days and probably accept it (while also reducing its size to fit their guidelines).

Once you have done this you should be able to find the perfect avatar for your particular 'sn', and show off to everyone that you can get an avatar that they have never seen before. One problem you might encounter is that Cheetachat has placed a limit of three avatars allowed for each person, I understand their reasons for this but it can get a little bit frustrating for the budding avatar-maker, especially if you are getting sick of your old avatars. There are a few ways to get around this at first, such as creating new usernames and different e-mail addresses, but if your avatars generally look fairly similar eventually cheetachat is going to catch on and stop letting you get away with this.

As an alternative, I have set up my own avatar database, of sorts. As I have said, so long as an avatar is in your avatar folder they will show up, and although this page is full of my own avatars at the moment I would be more than willing to post your avatars up there if you e-mail them to me. Good luck with your avatars, I think it's the one part of cheetachat which I really like, because of your ability to personalise your chat experience even more!

Emotions (Back to top)

One of the great things about Cheetachat is the ability to easily edit emotions. Simply right-click on any emotion and edit it. This can mean that the simple "gives so-and-so a big hug" can become something rather more interesting (or passionate depending upon your intentions). Of course there are some pretty cool things to do in emotions that can turn heads.. and generally make chat a more interesting.

Date - @date

Show number of people you have on ignore - @ignorecount
Show the number of people in the room - @usercount

There are more... but I will leave you to discover something not listed there, and you can always PM me to ask how to show it up.

Cool pictures (Back to top)

There isn't actually any secret trick for creating these, all you have to do is to play around with the fonts. It can be a little more difficult to install them into an emotion. And basic HTML knowledge is necessary (help files at angelfire are really useful for beginners). A few tips though - webdings A is a tick, webdings y is a heart. That's all that most people ever want to know.

To change the font from the original arial: <font face="webdings">a <font face="arial">. That will give you a tick. Type <red> if you want it to be in red. The result will be: a . Size can also be altered using <font size="16"> which will increase your font size to 16. Like this

Also if you want to place a copyright sign then just copy and paste (using the ctrl+c and ctrl+v keys to copy and paste) © that into your emotion list, or web-page or wherever you want to put it.

EXAMPLES

puts a red tick (a) next to %N's name. Congratulations %N you tripped auto-iggy for spamming, being a bot, or just being lame, along with @ignorecount other lamers. Courtesy of @roomname at @time @day @date in front of @usercount ©2001 Joshua

removes the red tick (a), taking %N off ignore, auto-iggy accidently caught %N . @ignorecount lamers are still on ignore. Welcome back to @roomname at @time @day @date
